Tsunami recovery ministry and church planting in Sendai
During 2012 we are developing and carrying out the EFC of Canada Mission tsunami recovery ministry in northeastern Japan. We hope to invite some short term teams to join us later in 2012.
Our ministry is among the tsunami displaced people living in the many temporary housing centers in and south of Sendai city, as well as those living in apartments in Sendai. Because Sendai is the biggest city in northeastern Japan with a population of over one million, most tsunami displaced people prefer to move to Sendai.
Hope is the missing ingredient in the recovery of tsunami devastated northeastern Japan. Several coastal towns now have a 20% suicide rate among their tsunami displaced people. Our desire is to reach tsunami displaced people from these kinds of towns with the hope and love of Jesus.
One approach we are trying to develop is to offer sewing and quilting classes for tsunami displaced ladies. While sewing and quilting they can share about their struggles and we can share about Jesus Christ.
Our tsunami ministry has an intentional connection with the Sendai Izumi Evangelical Free Church church planting project led by Larry and Bella Mori of ReachGlobal.
See our japanquake.ca website for more details about our tsunami recovery ministry.
After our year of tsunami recovery ministry we plan to launch our next church planting project: Tokyo Multicultural Church.
